Chunky Apple Crisp

Now that it’s fall, it is time to embrace the warm, gooey, and fruity desserts! If you have a bag of apples waiting to be used, this recipe is the absolute best.

This apple crisp is just the right amount of sweet! The bigger chunks still keep a bite after being cooked, but develop a sticky caramel coating. It’s best enjoyed with vanilla ice cream to compliment the crispy cinnamon topping.

Instructions

To assemble:
  1. Peel and cube apples into bigger chunks and add into a large bowl.
  2. Add all ingredients (except the butter) to the apples and mix until incorporated.
  3. Place a large pan on the stove on medium heat. Add butter to melt. Add in apple mixture and cook for 18-20 minutes, stirring consistently so that the bottom doesn't burn. The apples will still have bite to them but will be relatively soft and have a caramel sauce coating.
  4. Preheat the oven to 400 F. While the apples are cooking, prepare your crisp mixture. Whisk together the oats, flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Cube or grate butter and add it into the bowl. Using your hands or a pastry cutter, throughly incorporate the butter into the oat mixture.
  5. Add the cooked apple mixture into a casserole dish and spread to an even layer. Top with the crisp mixture and bake for 30 minutes or until the sides are bubbling and the top is golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve warm with ice cream and enjoy!
